No, these top two images aren't showcasing the young students from our class.
They show our amazingly talented staff.  Ms. Spratt, in the middle, is the organizer of our "Orange Shirt Day". You did a great job, Mrs. Spratt!

Ah...here we are!  Many dressed in orange!

Yes, September has come to a close.  We began school on the 4th and now we are already into October.  Can you imagine?  My, how time has flown!

Time for some short art lessons.

Also time to create a class book on the Terry Fox Run.

We brainstormed a number of possible sentences for the page...in fact, three choices for each and every sentence.  This ensured that each pupil would most likely have a story slightly different than their peers.

It's fun to read what they came up with.

Cool colouring.

Cool memories from the run.

Great job, boys!

A pretty nifty orange shirt!

And...another one!

Sharing our "Garden of Eden" stories for a different class book.

Looking good, girls!

Some close-up examples.

Creative frames.

Colours that are pleasing to the eye.

Having fun while working!

Another view of our weekly Spelling list.
Have a nice evening!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 20 - Tuesday, Oct.2

Yes, we experienced the twentieth day of school for the year.  Hard to believe.  We had an inclement recess today, not because of inclement weather...rather, we had a large crane out on the playground putting the two sides of the new portable together.  In this image we see our principal, Mrs. MacDonald playing a game with the class during the indoor recess.

They certainly had fun with Mrs. MacDonald.

Later, our "Special Person of the Day" ran the calendar at carpet.

Some views of the class.

Nice smiles.

Eager pupils.

Our special person of the day.

She's in good control of the class.

It must be the magic of the shirt!

A proud mathematician.

Team mates working in groups.

Some pupils working on their orange shirt art.

Using the ruler to assist in adding and subtracting.

Say cheese!

Hey, we have another teacher in the room!

Friendship abounds.

"Hey, where's my buddy?"

"Here he is!"

I love math.

And...we love your math!
(Lots of students at this age make reversals with their numbers.  It clears up in short order.)

Some of our teachers from yesterday in orange.

Awaiting the group picture.

Lots of fun.

Mr Silas, one of our French teachers.

Two of our shirts already finished.

With others yet to cut out.

Creative patterns.

Creative designs.

Today we learned about September in Canada.

We "choral read" the story a couple of times in class.

Then the pupils coloured their sheets.

They answered some "True" and "False" questions.

Then, as a class, we brainstormed other things that begin with the letter "m".

Students called out some "m" words such as March, Mocha, Man, Marshmallow, Monkey and Moth.  Creative thinkers they are!

Some further images of some of our math work.

Nicely done!

Nicely coloured.

Math is fun.

So is Language.

Today, we spent block three in the learning commons with another Grade Two class and two Grade Six classes learning the songs for our upcoming Thanksgiving Mass to be held on October 19th.  I didn't have my camera with me as I had just run a full lunch-hour choir rehearsal.  I am proud of all the boys and girls who sing with all of their hearts.
Have a fun-tastic evening everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 21 - Wednesday, Oct.3

We're back in the gym on Wednedays.

Time to practise more ball skills.

This time it is shooting hoops with the utility balls.

Happy children.

a colourful girl.

Here we go!

"I just got a basket, Mr. Hamer!"

"This is fun!"

Yes it is.

Everyone gets a ball.

And...everyone "has a ball" with their friends.

Setting up.

"I love gym!"

"So do we!"

Team mates.

Girl Power!

I think I can, I think I can!

Nice line up.

It's up, up and away!

Different motions.

We like Wednesday gym time!

Departing from gym, we encounter the kinders.

They are playing in the sand near the new portable classroom.

A football fan hand!

It sure claps loudly.

Our "Special Person of the Day!"

Lots of respondents to his questions.

Carpet time is fun too.

Peers assisting peers.

Hanging out together.

While we work.

Concentration.

Devotion to the work at hand.

Great efforts.

Copying notes from the board.

We close the month of September...

...as we create a new class book.

For each unfinished sentence...

...we brainstormed numerous possible answers.

The students came up with some great ideas...

...from which to choose.

Then we coloured our work carefully.

Two lads worked together and choose identical colours for their class book page.

Indeed...

...September was a busy month at school.

We enjoyed every minute of it as well!
Have a relaxing evening at home!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 22 - Thursday, Oct.4

We display the five class books we have published thus far in the school year.

The students are proud of their collaborative effort.

Back to School is a class book that deals with our emotions on the first day of school.

The book entitled Our Class tells us a little bit about each other.

God Made Me Special showcases each of the pupils along with their favourite activities to pursue.

My Summer Vacation was a homework activity.  The children enjoyed learning how the classmates spent their summer vacation.

The Garden of Eden allows us to express our thoughts about the things we do and how we should always ask ourselves if we are being the very best we can be.

A few more pages from our September class book which will be published shortly.

It will review the many experiences we enjoyed during the first month back at school.

It always fun to roam around the classroom while the students are on task...

...and snap images for our families to see.

The camera catches great facial reactions.

And...fun moments from throughout the day.

The students enjoy being given the opportunity to work in different places around the classroom.

The floor is often a favourite location.

As long as the quality of their efforts remains high!

Peers helping peers is very special.

Someone who may be helped one day may very well become a helper the next day.

Some like to work alone at times and that's okay too!

It is also fun for me to "overhear" their discussions.

By listening in, I gain valuable insight into their thinking.

I'm amazed at their ability to think critically.

They are also amazed at themselves with the ideas they come up with.

Sharing of supplies is a learned skill.

As is respecting the belongings of others.

Sometimes the children work in twos...while at other times, in threes or even more.

They always try their best to produce high calibre work.

Sometimes they discuss the lesson.

Or...perhaps, what they might do in a few minutes when the recess bell rings!  Hehehe!

Joy abounds.

Along with learning.

As well as care and compassion for each other.

Here are a few pics of some of their work.

I am truly impressed with the students.

While they are now in Grade Two...

...they are really Grade One students with a summer holiday and the first month of school behind them.

Yet, they try their best to produce great efforts that appear to be made by a child a few grades ahead!

I've already shared a few pages from our Terry Fox class book.

From our collaboratively brainstormed lesson of last week.

The children gained a deeper understanding of empathy of others as they learned of Terry's incredible story.

Lovely work, boys and girls.

I'm proud of you.

And I know your families are too!

A few images of our math turkey.

One thing is for sure...

...this turkey will not be on your dining table this weekend.

He's too "math wise."

And...I am certain that he'll find a way to escape this weekend.

To "gobble up" a few more math facts in the upcoming weeks!

It's nice to see some of our homework making it back to school before the nest week's deadline.

Yes, we have so much to be thankful for...and I am thankful to you, our Grade Two families for sending such great students to our school each morning!  Have a peaceful and relaxing long weekend everyone! Mr. Hamer OCT
