Week Sixteen of School

Day 71 - Monday, Dec. 17

Welcome to week three of Advent.  This morning we enjoyed a lovely liturgy in the gym with the whole school.  In week three we light the pink Advent candle, the Candle of Joy.
(There will be no spelling list this week.  Homework is due this Friday...before the holidays.)

In class we worked on an ornament craft.

It takes images from twenty Christmas cards to create a single ornament.

First step is to decide which aspect of the card you want to use.

Then you draw a circle around the area.

For some Christmas cards, you may get two or even three images to cut out.

This card yielded two cutouts.

We get out our trusty triangle.

We place it atop the circular cutout.

Then we begin folding the sides over top the triangle.

Side one and two are done.

Then side three.

We unfold the edges.

Then we remove the triangle.  We'll need twenty of these sections.

Now...to select from some already cut circles.

Remember to get twenty.

Too many to choose from!

Ah...there's twenty.

She's a good folder.

The first ten are stapled together.

We shape them in a circle.

Then we staple five sections atop the circle.

Looking good so far.

A finished ornament.

A dedicated effort.

He's proud of his work.

Fancy fingernails from this ornament maker.

Another one completed.

She's just starting.

He's done.

And...so is she!

Looking good.

Too much fun!

Time to investigate our first eight of the twenty-four Christmas carols.

Jingle Bells...of course!

Walking in a Winter Wonderland.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

Joy to the World.

Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

O Come All Ye Faithful  (Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park.)

I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas.

O Christmas Tree.
Have a great evening everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 72 - Tuesday, Dec. 18

This morning Mr. Hamer and his family enjoyed breakfast with the Governor General at Rideau Hall. We dined in the tent room as the main room is under renovation.

Joining us was Mr. McGuire.  He used to teach at St. Bernard and St. FX High School before retiring this year.

We encouraged him to play the Steinway in the Long Room.

My daughter (in the green and blue striped dress) is offering a tour to the public following breakfast.

Back at school we enjoyed choir.

The ukeleles were brought out.

They are colourful.

We rehearsed some fun songs.

All Christmas related.

Some percussion instruments were brought out.

Back in class we got back to creating our geodesic spheres which really are Christmas ornaments.

He's doing a good job.

Day 74 - Thursday, Dec. 20

It's now December 28th and I'm catching up with the blog after enjoying a wonderful family Christmas over the past few days.  I'll take you back to the last week of school in December...the events of Thursday, December 20th.

This was a fun-filled day for the school as we held our annual Snowflake Sale put on by are fabulous grade six students.

The older folk were like Santa's little helpers.  Here's a lovely sibling pair.

What to buy?  What to buy?

He knows exactly what he wants.

So does she.

He's perusing the items.

She's getting help by one of the older children.

As is he.

Looks just like a market place from afar!

He's considering his options.

The stuffy brigade.

Smile for the camera.

Lots of goodies to buy.

These lads were great helpers.

I told you he knew exactly what he wanted!

Another great sibling combo!

Santa's helpers.

Santa's elves.

A three-pack of great looking helpers.

The older students helped with the gift wrapping.

Colourful wrap.

This young lad is getting tons of assistance.

We're proud of our grade six friends for volunteering all day long.

A lovely trio of St. Bernard girls.

Lots of colourful items.

That spur on creativity.

You go, Mme Pepe!

A big present.

Our giving tree in the front lobby is adorned with items for others in need.

Back in the classroom, we check out all of the loot!

Looks like Santa made it in the "Nick" of time...pardon the pun.

Candy cane time...as tomorrow, Friday, might just be a snow day!

We're a fun bunch aren't we!

Hehehe!

A happy little one.

Some even managed to sneak into their Snowflake items for some play time.

Too much fun!
Check in later for the events of our last day before Christmas on the Friday...which didn't materialize into a snow day.
Happy holidays!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 75 - Friday, Dec. 21

The last day of school found fun things in the teachers' staff room.

Some special elves offered up plenty of treats.

What a smorgasbord!

Lots of calories.

Well, we can burn them off throughout the day.

Santa's little helpers.

Friday was also PJ Day.

Lots of stuffies.

Fun times at St. Bernard.

Smiles galore.

A nice helper.

Peekaboo.

There she is!

Yummy treats.

He's getting ready to head to the gym for a whole school sing-along led by Mr. Hamer.

Ah...we'd better remember to finish up with the Christmas Carols.
This one is "What Child is This"...note the question mark on the basket.

"We Three Kings" of course.

A deck of cards in a hallway must represent "Deck the Halls".

"I Saw There Ships Come Sailing In" is a lovely carol.

"O Holy Night" is a favourite of many.

Hey an alphabet with no "L"...oh, I get it..."The First Noel".

Away in a Manger...yup, that's a "weigh" scale.

Wow!  Twelve dates of December 25th...that can only mean "The Twelve Days of Christmas".

"I Say Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" which is a fun Christmas tune.

That looks like a tool called an awl.  That's a wishbone meaning I want something.  Hey, that saw has lost its' two front teeth.  This can only mean, "All I Want For Christmas is My Two Front Teeth".

The Christmas Song - "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire".

"It Came Upon a Midnight Clear".

"Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!"

A knight is asking us to get really quiet..."Silent Night".

"O LIttle Town of Bethlehem".

The Lone Ranger's horse is called Silver and he is wearing bells around his neck...thus..."Silver Bells".
Happy New Year to all of our classroom families!  See ya next year!
