  4.  mean      9.  meat

We have learned the meaning of the word Hallowe'en.

October 31st is the Eve of All Saints' Day.
Therefore, the date is known as All Hallow's Eve.

Lots of tradition in the name.

We are getting ready already!

This lovely young goblin wore this orange shirt last week.

Oooohhhh!  So cool!

Another lovely young goblin.

Let's try for three!

Uh huh!

Last week we studied the make-up of our bodies.

Through the use of the SmartBoard we are able to learn the water content of our body.

That's quite a bit of water, I would say.

Then we tried finding out the water content of other items.

An easy "click" on the "clucker"...

...and we learn that 75% of a chicken's body is composed of water.

Less so for an elephant.

Wow...no wonder they call this food a "water"melon!

Today we shared the chrome books with the girls going on for a short while in Block Three while the boys worked at their desks...then vice versa in Block Four.

Mrs. Akkawi's pupils came into our class to survey us about a variety of topics.

Each child had a tally chart on the go.

With their clipboards.

Looks interesting to me.

Some items are more popular than others.

The children were excited to be "interviewed" by their friends from the other class.

A busy classroom it is!

I am thankful for my helpers who enjoy placing stickers on their peers' work.

It would appear the stickers are of the Halloween variety!

My "burning bush" plant out front my home is a lovely deep red colour at the moment.  This tells me that we are deep into fall.  Have a great evening everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 38 - Tuesday, Oct.30

Is everyone ready for tomorrow?

We are...and we'll be wearing orange and black to school!

Some of our friends from the other class came in again today to survey us.

So much discussion.

Interpreting the data!

The boys enjoy the experience.

They had great questions.

And...a tally chart.

Looks like some busy huddles of students.

Too much fun.

Happy faces.

Three amigos from our class!

Three more amigos on computers.

Fun times two!

Ditto.

Ditto once more.

We learn as we play.

What's your super power?

A nice assembly of words in the main hallway of the school.

Still more surveying.

Information gathering.

Mr. Hamer, Mrs. Blackmore and Mme Souliere ran choir today.

We learned our rows.

These rows will be how we line up when we sing the national anthem.

There's Mrs. Blackmore.

The boys and girls are excited.

We will sing the anthem at the Ottawa 67's game on Saturday, November 24th at 2:00 PM.

We hope to see many of you at the game!

Next week order forms will go home so that any of our school families can attend the game in support of the choir.

Later, we had our grade two friends from Mrs. Akkawi's class visit for a lesson delivered by Mr. Hamer.

Here was a fun worksheet we completed today.  Click on the image to enlarge it.

The sun was shining really bright this morning when I left my home.  Here is a similar picture to the one I snapped yesterday when it was more of a grey day.
Have a super evening everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 39 - Wednesday, Oct.31

Fall is still in the air on this day of Halloween.

What a treat it was for our entire staff to see Ms. Casey Delaney today as she paid the school a visit to see her Kindergarten friends.  We thank all of our St. Bernard family for their many prayers for Casey...pictured in the grey jacket.

The gym is beginning to look spooky.

Ah...the smiles on the jack-o-lanterns don't scare us!

But this fellow does!

And this pair too!

Whooooo....spooky, for sure!

He's just floating around the gym.

We truly enjoyed our kinder parade through the school.

Lots of great looking costumes.

Pretty too.

Ms. Delaney took in the action.

Mrs. Farrell is enjoying leading the parade.

Some tentative darlings.

Ms. Melissa is having a ball.

Some brave heroes.

Friends from "The Zone."

Eager students.

They visit Mrs. Gillam.

Here's one of ours.

Three buddies.

Mme. Pepe!

Love the hair.

A bit of "down time" on a special day.

Yes, we're going batty!

Nice drawings on the blackboard completed during indoor recess.

"We've got glow sticks!"

"We're ready to head to the gym."

Just a couple more pics from the board.

Love the drawings!

Time for the Halloween Glow Party.

Indeed, we are all glowing!

So are these guys.

Two of ours.

Are these some of my pupils?  Hmmmm...not too sure!

Cool shirt!

Hi Mrs. Eaton.

Hello Mrs. Gillam.

A happy camper.

Three portapack amigos.

I recognize this pairing.

Mrs. Lisa with a friend.

A bowl of glow sticks.

A glow-chain!

Dancing to the music.

Floor games.

Bean toss.

Mr. Hamer...just kidding!

More floor games.

This time...hopscotch.

Hi Mrs. Ransom.

An overall view.

Shining bright!

We thank the parent council for putting on a great show in the gym!

My puppy dog, Lilly, carved our jack-o-lantern with her paw print.
I trust everyone survived Halloween evening!
All the best, Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 40 - Thursday, Nov. 1

Hey...Mr. Hamer...enough with the Jack O'Lanterns already!
Mr. Hamer says he didn't put the image in the blog...it just appeared.
Oh well!

Walking around the school...

...we find art from a number of classes...

...displayed in the hallways...

...on the bulletin boards.

Lots of creativity.

Fine scale sketching.

Water colour painting.

Ooh...a dangerous class to enter.

This bulletin board is located outside the library/learning commons.

Where we visited today.

We met Ms. Avilla once again.

She asked a ton of questions about taking out library books.

And...we knew all of the answers...bravo class!

Our shelf marker is so important when inspecting possible books from the shelves.

A great selection.

The sign-in and sign-out desk.

No Dogs Allowed!  My Lilly wouldn't like that book!

She might not like The Cat in the Hat as well!

And...she'd certainly chase this bunny all around.

I remember the movie of Toy Story.

Searching for books.

Lots to look at.

Great use of the shelf marker stick!

You go girl!

Nice book!

Great choice!

Lots of "flex seating" in the Learning Commons.

Readers on task.

A happy reader.

Looking good!

"I like this book, Mr. Hamer!"

Good friends.

Yellow strength.

Halloween shades.

Purple Power!

Blue on Blue...our Lego centre.

Here is our latest published book.

From our homework last week.
Click on the image to enlarge it.

Indeed, fall is a colourful season.

Kids love to play outside in the fall.

Playing with friends outdoors is healthy.

A colourful background.

Yup...time to get those sweaters and jackets out of the cupboard.

I love Halloween decorations too!

Snow starting to fall from the sky...Yikes!!!

Spider webs come out on October 31st.

Trick or treating is so much fun!

Fall is the best season ever...or maybe spring, summer or winter too?  Hehehe!

Our Creation board looks so cool with our fall pages.
Have a relaxing evening on All Saints' Day!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 41 - Friday, Nov. 2

Mr. Hamer started the morning off in the new Grade Six classroom.

He was covering for another teacher.

There are a lot of flex seating options available.

Some students I have taught in their earlier years.

Concentration.

Group work.

They were working on their Mandela's which is a form of art that combines patterning.  This is an example of integrating math with art.

Back in our home room...

...we found the children devoted to...

...completing a 100 piece puzzle.

They worked in shifts and really enjoyed the challenge.

More groupwork with Halloween compound words.

Happy campers!

All around the room.

Hey, I think I've seen one little elf in every one of the previous few images!  Big smile!

Back to the puzzle table.

Mr. Hamer set it up on the "standing table."

The standing table is a taller table than the others in the room.  When children opt to work there, they stand rather than sit.

The dinosaur puzzle.

The class at work.

Too much fun.

Getting there!

The border's done.

Friday afternoon in Block 4.

Some fun computing time.

Or...time to finish up other work if you wish.

A little pumpkin.

Almost complete!

There we are!

Heavily involved in her program.

Ditto for these two!

Earlier in the day, at lunch time, we enjoyed a "Picnic Lunch."

Friday picnic lunches are too much fun!

We took apart the puzzle and had others enjoy the activity later in the day.

They're puzzle pros!

Smiles abound.

All around.

...and...Mr. Hamer loves all of his students too!

Let's check in on some more of our Fall homework activity pages.

Interesting things found in the country in the fall.

Cool things spotted on the recess playground.

Your front porch reveals a lot as well.

We all love fall!

Hmmm...I wonder what your favourite season is...parents?

I hope you have enjoyed our blog entries for this week.
Check in next week to see many new happenings going on in the classroom!
All the best, Mr. Hamer OCT
