Our "Special Person of the Day" leads the class with calendar.

Another marble goes in the marble jar to represent the 150th day of the school year.

A magician.

He can move a ball right through the box.

And...pull it out on the other side!

Our class is ready for visitors tomorrow morning.  Come on in and check out the poems we wrote and the work we have completed.

Our Creation Board is filled with yet another class book.

A peek out in the hallway from our classroom door.

We see some of our artwork.

Check it out if you can make it in tomorrow.

The colourful works of art came from the story we shared last week.

A great story it is.

Some of our "Name Art".

The children will bring home all of their works of art at the end of the school year.

So nice.

Lots of different shades.

We're waiting!

Also, don't forget to send in those purple slips indicating what you will be bringing to the Breakfast on the Shore taking place on the Wednesday of next week.
Have a great evening everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 151 - Tuesday, May 7

Tuesday of Education Week brought with it the annual "Open House".

The work of the children and their poems were on display for parents.

Our esteemed principal, Mrs. MacDonald was thrilled to meet the families.

The gym was filled.

Some of our wonderful families.

Mom is a former student of mine!

More cool shots of family and friends.

The class looks so nice.

It's fun to share our work with our moms and dads.

Then it was back to the gym.

To see our dancers in action.

Lots of crowds.

An aerial shot.

Balloons too.

Lots of food as well.

The dancers begin their show.

The other groups waits in the wings.
We'll check out their routine tomorrow.

Some of the grade threes spent the day in our class.

This allowed their teacher to head out to the dance showcase at the board.

We had fun learning about colour tones.

Some great looking examples.

Then it was down to work.

Newcomers mixed with our students.

They fit right in.

Some of our own.

Happy faces.

Plenty of smiles.

Time for some sharing.

Our poetry.

We wrote a variety of poems.

Some were about us.

Some took on special shapes.

Looking good.

Some poems provided excuses...

...to get out of specific chores we might not want to complete.

The children enjoyed writing their poems.

They were so creative.

Throughout the next few days we will hold a "poet's corner".

The boys and girls will get to share their poems out loud.

Mr. Hamer will bring in his microphone.

So they will have fun reading to their peers.

What would you write, moms and dads?

If you could be something else?

This is an "I Like" poem.

Which tells us a little more about you.

A conversation between mom and daughter.

Very special.

A ukulele...

...and a guitar.  It must be choir for Mr. Hamer.

A new song we are learning for our Breakfast on the Shore celebration.
Check in later for images from Wednesday!
All the best, Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 152 - Wednesday, May 8

Let's check out that dance showcase.

We're lined up outside the gym.

One of the dance troupes.

And...the other troupe.

Two of our dance leaders.

Mrs. Fraser and her new baby boy!

Balloons for celebration.

One dance begins.

Some challenging moves.

Great choreography.

Synchronization at its best.

Looking great.

Fine athletics.

Our other troupe.

Split into groups.

Five stars...

...among many.

Finale!

Great job everyone!

Nice outfit.

Outdoor fun.

Cool cap.

Some more of our work.

Some of our name art in the hallway.

Each class was given a canvas for finger painting.

Each class has been asked to create a work of art.

They will all be displayed in June when we have our School wide Family BBQ.

They will be sold in an auction.

That means...

...your family has the opportunity...

...to win our painting...

...at auction.

How cool is that!

Finger painting is so much fun!

The image evolves as each student gets their turn.

Looking great!

Friends.

Work together.

Loads of concentration.

A happy girl.

Something about...

...dipping your fingers in paint...

...that is so soothing!

These two agree!

Too much fun!

We even worked out painting around the edges.

Almost done.  After the paint dries, we will frame each section with a black Permanent Marker which will make the segments "pop"!

Some more fun in the great outdoors.

Two classes at once.

Companions.

A hot goalie.

Grade Three students with their works of art outdoors...some are former students of Mr. Hamer.

Cool picture!

We once again gathered in Mrs. Eaton's class for our singing practice.

Then it was Phys. Ed. outdoors.

Peace!

A rainbow ball.

Some real skippers.

Four square fun...

...for everyone!

A typical St. Bernard trio!

Say, some of our finest visited the school to meet with the Kindergarten crew!
We'll check that out tomorrow!  Have a fine evening everyone!

Day 153 - Thursday, May 9

Yesterday, the pupils all had a turn to finger paint our canvas.

We chose to showcase some "Contemporary Art" for our contribution to the school wide cause.

Mr. Hamer pulled the masking tape off the canvas and outlined the various segments using a chisel point permanent marker.

Note how the final product also had the sections wrap around the side of the artwork.

The children are proud to pose with the canvas...

...seeing as they were the ones who painted it!

We chose to call the artwork a name relevant to the three colours.

We call it "Earth and Sun".

The challenge we faced was trying to have same colours not touch too much.

We feel we've done a pretty good job in that department.

It will be interesting to see what all of the the other classes chose to create.

It doesn't matter in which juxtaposition the students hold the painting...

...for it looks great in any of the four ways it can displayed.

This painting will help brighten up any household.

Gee, I wish that I could place a bid on it!

Lovely.

Our creation has found its way atop the shelves in the learning commons with other compositions from classes around the school.

Two beauties.

Two fabulous creations.

Two more creative works.

Two great additions to the gallery.

Ditto again!

We headed to the arcade in the gymnasium.

Our grade six pupils did a fabulous job putting it all together.

Superb game creations.

Mrs. Brigitte and Ms. Fyfe.

I check in at recess time.

The gym is empty.

This provides me the opportunity to snap a few shots of all of the games.

Then it's our class's turn to visit.

We spot some interesting game that appeal to us.

Even though all of them are interesting.

The grade six students offer sage advice.

Sibling love.

So nice to see!

Total focus.

Some auxiliary devices as well.

Concentration.

Waiting their turns.

She's a proud creator.

Creative screens.

Lots of games.

A beehive of activity.

Staying patient.

Sibling appreciation.

She explains the game very well.

They learn quickly.

Then they go to it.

Wonderful.

Nice display.

A proud designer.

Loving siblings!

Some aerial shots.

From atop the stage.

Keeners.

Exciting times.

Back in class we began some art work of our own.

Yellows, oranges and greens.

Some cutting involved too!

What a great Grade Five helper!
We'll share the artwork created here...later over the weekend.

As promised...some more images from our kindergarten visit by our city's fire fighters.

The big red truck certainly draws their attention.

The kinder had lots of questions for the firemen and women.

He must be hot in that amount of gear.

Ms. Melanie sits with her troup.

Ms. Stephanie helps a little down from the truck.

Still more questions.

It was great that the weather co-operated on Wednesday.

A great class shot with the crew!
Have a great evening everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 154 - Friday, May 10

Mrs. Blackmore, Mrs. Johnson and Mr. Hamer enjoyed a wonderful day with our choir at the Education Week Choral Celebration.  This image is courtesy of our school's superintendent.

Our choir had fun seats along the back of the auditorium.

We had taken the bus to St. Paul's High School.

Mrs. Johnson with Sarah Alder...Mrs. Alder's daughter.
Mrs. Alder retired this past year.

Enjoying the rehearsals of the other choirs.

One of the other choirs.

Another one.

Our group.

The director is leading a massed song, reviewing some tricky parts.

We listen attentively.

Yet another choir.

Then all of the parents were invited to the stage.

Where they listened to the massed choirs...some dozen ensembles from schools all around the board.  The massed choir filled all of the seats.

We performed two massed songs which all of the choirs had learned over that past couple of months back at their own schools.

These next four images come from our school's Twitter feed.

The teachers took on the grade six pupils in a basketball game in block four.

Who won the game?

You'll have to ask you child!  Check in on Sunday which is Mother's Day!
Have a super weekend everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT
