It's always fun to see what the children create when they are at home with their older siblings.  This fabulous totem pole is simply wonderful!

New chicks in our kindergarten class.

Indeed...look but don't touch!

Some cool slime.

With the month of May now in the past...

...we had to make sure we created a class book on April.

April was a busy month in school.

We continued our lenten fundraiser.

We gathered for great assemblies.

We hosted many visitors to the school.

Our class got a lovely new student.

Mr. Hamer toured the choir to the Chateau Laurier.

And...many more exciting things!
Have a great evening everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 169 - Tuesday, June 4

Tuesday found us in Chelsea, Quebec.

At the Nature Center for Gatineau Park.

A great learning experience.

Many lovely artifacts.

We arrived shortly after 10:00 AM.

Headed to our lunch room.

We enjoyed a quick snack before our hike.

Emilie will be our guide for the day.

Here she is explaining the expectations.

Everyone is huddled around.

Near the big map.

Look...a bridge!

We will cross it soon.

Before we cross the bridge, everyone travels beneath a special human tunnel.

When we pass through the tunnel we become magical animals.

As we cross the bridge we look down at the little river.

It meanders through the park.

Into the woods.

Searching for things in the forest.

Lots of green.

Mrs. Eaton and the natural fern bed.

Into the meadow.

We find some stumps.

They make great seats.

Everyone huddles around.

Lots of fun!

We learn about red squirrels and grey squirrels.

What the squirrels eat.

Then we role play as squirrels.

Some of us are reds.

Some of us are greys.

We have to hide our nuts.

A trillium.

Still hiding the nuts.
One type of squirrel hides the nuts in a large batch while the other type spreads the spoils all around.

We head back to "home base".
Check in tomorrow to see other pics from the day!
Thanks to all of our great parent volunteers who could make it out for the trip.
Have a super evening everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 170 - Wednesday, June 5

Our homework assignment this past week...

...was to write about and draw our favourite toy.

Lots of great responses came in.

Lots of creative toys.

Lots of creative drawings.

It's always fun to read what the students have to say.

Looking good.

Toys come in a variety of sizes, shapes, colours...and, in this case...textures!

Too much fun!

Let's catch up from yesterday's blog entry on our field trip.

Once the students hid their nuts while role-playing squirrels, they returned to home base.
Then they were asked to head back out into the field to collect as many nuts as they could.

Popsicle sticks played the role of the nuts.

"I've got a bunch!"  he says.

"And...you can't have any!"
Just like a real squirrel would behave.

Green grass in the meadows.

She's on the hunt for more nuts.

They all are.

Check out the woodpecker hole!

And...three more!

Then it was off into the woods.

We sit on a long log.

Where we use our sense of feel.

The paths are great.

Once on the log, Emilie gives it a tap in a moment to see if all of the students can feel the tap.

We are just like little snakes who use the sense of feel to figure out what is happening nearby them.

Snakes huddle together to keep warm...as these plastic ones are doing.

The other St. Bernard group meets us.

They pass by with Mrs. Roche in tow.

In the shade it is cooler.

In this lovely park.

Then it's off again.

We huddle together to learn a little secret.  But...you'll have to wait until later in the week to find out.  Mr. Hamer is busy after school and into the evening, so check in Friday evening for the latest!  Have a great evening!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 171 - Thursday, June 6

On Thursday we learned about the process of childbirth.

Our Fully Alive books came out as we learned more about Family Life.

The children took these lessons very seriously.

Then it was time to head outdoors for some free play.

The new mud kitchen looks so cool.  Thanks goes out to the high school students at St. FX who built the structure for us.

Some nice painting by the kindergarten teachers.

Getting along together.

Fun with the hoop!

Our outdoor classroom.

Fnids usage...

...by our Grade Six class.

They are great percussionists.

Sounds great!

Our new Innovation Station.

Looks so cool!

Our outdoor music wall.

Wonderful.

More basketball fun.

Skipping rope partners.

More mud kitchen play.

So cool.

What'cha baking?

Yum Yum!

Back to our field trip earlier in the week.
We huddled for a secret.

We head up to the cave.

To locate something interesting.

It's a bird's nest nestled on the ledge located in the center of the picture.

We are fascinated.

It's a cool looking cave!

Love the greenery of the forest.

Indeed Gatineau Park is lush and verdant.

Later Emilie brings out her cool puppet to teach us about animal adaptation related to smell and taste.  We'll learn more next week!  Have a fine weekend with all this nice weather!
