       2.  tooth      7.  change

 4.  teach     9.  inch

Mr. Hamer's band played three gigs on the St. Paddy's Day weekend.
It was a busy but fun time!
I played both my acoustic and my electric guitar throughout the show.  One of our bandmates is a police constable, another is my dentist, another is a former teacher from St. Bernard and St. FX school and one is a former student of mine when she was in Grade 4 here at St. Bernard Catholic!
Remember, you can expand the image by clicking on it and you can return to the default look of the page by clicking outside the image.

This morning we circle the consonant digraphs from our spelling lists.
A digraph is made up of two consonants that work together to make a new sound.
In fact, we learned that the word "digraph" actually contains a digraph!
We also chuckled that we realized that a consonant blend contains a blend..."bl".
Of course, a blend is made up of two consonants side by side where you actually hear both consonant sounds.  Indeed, lots of great learning goes on in Grade Two!

A sweet message.

She likes the message.

Getting ready for recess.

In science we watched a fun cartoon video.

We are learning about "simple machines".
We will require parent volunteers on the morning of our Scientist Visit to our classroom, so please sign the form your child brought home this week if you can make it in to volunteer.

Our Lenten Fundraiser will support the children who live in Cameroon, Africa.

The students attended a great "kick-off" for the fundraiser today.

The "O" in "OK" stands for "Ottawa".
The "K" in "OK" stands for "Kumbo".

We need to raise money to help them purchase more pipes so that they can have the fresh water from the mountain lakes reach their village rather than have them trek for ours just to reach the water source.

You will be hearing more about our Lenten initiative throughout the week.

Our pipeline is developing nicely in the lobby of the school.
Have a lovely week everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 118 - Tuesday, March 19

We are excited about our Lenten Fundraiser beginning next Tuesday.
Here is an image of a typical classroom in Cameroon.

This picture shows pipes arriving at a village and ready to be attached together underground.

Part of the display in the hallway.
The coloured stickers will be given to the children to fill the pipes in the hallway when the donations start coming in next week.

A happy class!

Snack time!

Yum yum!

Friends.

A smiley face!

Mr. Hamer and Mrs. Blackmore ran choir on Tuesday.

We gathered in the learnimg commons.

The children give up their lunch time recess to gather to sing.

They enjoy gathering as a choir.

The girls and boys learn new songs quickly.

Some children arrive Canada from a foreign nation and join our choir right away.
Singing is such a tremendous way to learn a new language!

Concentration.

Music makes us happy.

Sometimes we learn two parts or a harmony.

Team mates and choir mates too!

Mrs. Blackmore shares the piano with an up-and-comer!

Truly an enjoyable experience for all each week!
See you tomorrow evening!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 119 - Wednesday, March 20

Wednesday was a great day here at St. Bernard.
Spring arrived late this afternoon.

Earlier, our boys and girls once again gathered to learn more about the sacrament of Reconciliation.

They are great listeners!

We met at the church in the evening.

A lovely lenten message.

The entire altar.

A lovely tree adorned with images of the boys and girls.

Families gathered early.

They mingled.  Later, when the service began, the church was very full.

The children placed their sheep in the pasture.

The pasture was located at the foot of the altar.

Beautiful.

They did a great job on their little sheep.

My esteemed colleagues...Mrs. Roche, Mrs. Eaton and Mrs Akkawi.

Remember, we still require a couple of more volunteers to help make our "Scientist in the Schools" morning a huge success.  Even if you do not have the form anymore, feel free to write a note in your child's agenda indicating if you can help out.

More pics and tales from Thursday and Friday of this past week to follow shorly!

Day 120 - Thursday, March 21

We have been learning about multiplication.
Four columns of three items gives us 12 items.
Likewise, three rows of four items also results in 12 items.

We are thrilled to be starting our OK Clean Water fundraiser next week.

You have already seen this colourful poster.

You have also seen this image of pipes being delivered to the villages in the Kumbo region of Cameroon.

In this picture, we see a trench being dug.

It is hard work.

But the results are so satisfying.

Yes, these are the pipes that go into the making of the pipelines.

His smile tells it all!

While Mr. Hamer was creating the pipelines around the school he snapped pictures of various bulletin boards and items on the walls.

Our Genius Centre is a big hit.

Our EDpP team work hard.

Grade One children are creating artwork out of basic geometric shapes.

Lots of cool creations.

Different creatures.

Different colours.

Very creative.

What's this?

Hmmm...looks familiar.

Oh...I get it!  It's "sugaring off" time!

So creative!

We remember the reason for Lent.

Jesus gave His all for us.

Down in the Kindergarten wing they are also learning all about shapes.

Some are flat and some have a body to them.

A cool poem.

Making things with shapes is loads of fun.

Very interesting.

During Lent, we...

...do these three things.

We pray.

We fast.

And...we give!
Check in later for Friday's findings.

Day 121 - Friday, March 22

Friday closed out the week.

Inclement weather meant indoor recesses.

Which means "play time!"

With friends.

Fun activities.

Great games.

Computer time.

Peers from other classes share time together.

Carpet play.

Building things.

Working together.

Getting along.

Creative artwork.

Goofing around is fun too!

Quiet moments.

Shaping clay.

Into cool figures.

Best buds!

Cool shirt.

Keeping slim with slime!

Nice pose!

Yet another great looking creation.

Beautiful.

Girl power!

Role playing time.

Total focus.

Plug those chrome books in!

As her shirt says, "Love Wins!"

Four stars.

In the afternoon...

...it was that special time...

...for the "Big Gulp!"

Tastes good!
See everyone next week!
Mr. Hamer OCT
