Week Twenty-Five of School

Day 112 - Monday, March 4

No Spelling List this Week!

The paints are out in the classroom early on this Monday morning.

Mr. Hamer has to create a special banner for our Ash Wednesday liturgy.

Yes, it is our "Alleluia" banner.

It has to be big and bright in order to be seen by all in the gymnasium during our Ash Wednesday service.

Of course, we bury the Alleluia banner on Ash Wednesday for the 40 days of Lent.
We will once again rejoice with the singing of Alleluia on Easter morning.

With the paints already out...

...why not use them!

The children were creative with their pictures.

Her sunglasses allow her to see the colours in a different tone!

Having fun.

Of course...some of the children painted their names as part of their art.
Of course, Mr. Hamer has to be creative in obscuring the names.  Hehehe!

Smiles and funny faces!

Concentration.

Classmate buddies.

Looks cool.

Painting never grows old.

Sunshine.

With a rainbow coloured sky.

Classmates...

...working as a team.

Devotion to her work.

Some of the finished products.

A creative design.

A cool heart!

Black outlining helps the banner "stand out".
We look forward to Shrove Tuesday tomorrow!
Have a great evening everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 113 - Tuesday, March 5

Today is Shrove Tuesday.

We all appreciate our wonderful St. Bernard Volunteers.

They were in the hallways of the school in the wee hours of the morning.

Cooking up batches of pancakes for the students.

Thank you volunteers!

Mr. Nihmey is in the staff room...

...surrounded by all of the supplies.

Looks like a veritable feast!

Our classroom before the bell rings.

Our batch of yummy pancakes.

Mme Pepe serves the children.

Having fun...

...with science.

A balancing act.

Too cool.

Down to the business at hand...those pancakes.

Looks tasty!

They all agree...

...that they are tasty indeed!

It's nice to share a meal in the morning.

We do so at noon time.

That apple juice bottle is a tough one to open.

In math we studied math families.

He's a pro.

We listened to a nice story about a little boy who plays hockey.

Both grade two classes gathered in the PM.

We watched another version of "The Good Samaritan."

This a wonderful parable which teaches a deep lesson.

The children focused intently.

Then we made our little sheep.
I will post pics tomorrow of the process.

Our Alleluia banner is ready to go for tomorrow's Ash Wednesday service.
Have a lovely evening everyone!

Day 114 - Wednesday, March 6

This past Wednesday was a very special day.

It was Ash Wednesday.

The beginning of Lent.

When we are asked to, "Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel."

Our liturgy was held in the gym.

Mr. Hamer and Mrs. Eaton organized the special service.

The whole school attended.

Our two Grade Six friends helped bury the Alleluia banner.

For we no longer sing Alleluia in Lent.

A purple tablecloth adorns our prayer table.

Some creative work was done during free time.

Looks so colourful.

A colourful lad being extra creative with markers.

And with some of our building toys.

Looking good!

We worked on our sheep earlier in the week.

The children were given all of the parts required for the sheep.

They enjoy doing crafts.

Concentration is required.

Comraderie.

Teamwork.

A little bit of glue.

Some wool.

Tricky work.

Let's check out the completed sheep.

An entire flock!

We'll name them just for fun!

Sideways sheep.

Smiley sheep.

Fuzzy sheep.

Tipsy sheep.

Awesome sheep.

Contemplative sheep.

Nosey sheep!

Furry sheep.

Sleepy sheep.

Darling sheep.

Sapphire sheep.
We'll see more tomorrow.

Here is the notice the children were given.

Containing their special prayers for the Reconciliation Service.
Check in tomorrow from more pics from last week!
I hope everyone is enjoying their March Break!

Day 115 - Thursday, March 7

We gathered all four Grade Two classes once again in Mrs. Eaton's room.

To learn more about the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

We rehearsed our two songs.

We practised saying our prayers of penance.

We read a few passages.

We answered a few questions.

All around...an excellent lesson.

Then we watched this really cool video..."Do Sheep Only Obey Their Master's Voice?"

Indeed...the sheep only came when their master called...and not when all of the other people tried.  Too cool!  Check it out at the link below.  Simply copy and paste the link into your browser.

Ms. Akkawi's class once again visited our class.

We worked on a couple of pages from our Reconciliation Booklet.

Diligent workers.

Their hands must be sore from all of that writing!

But they don't complain.

Say cheese!

Another look at more of our sheep.

They come in all different shapes even if they are all from the same family.

Different poses.

Different amounts of wool.

Different embellishments to the face.

Different poses.

Different ear arrangements.

Tails too!

The children truly enjoyed making these fine looking four-legged creatures.

And...

...I enjoyed photographing them!

Oh my!

Yet another puzzle is done!

Bravo!

Impressive.
Check in tomorrow for more pics and stories from our final week of school before the March Break!  I trust all are enjoying their time off!

Day 116 - Friday, March 8

Friday, March the 8th is the last school day before St. Patrick's Day, so a bunch of the staff are found wearing green...including Mr. Hamer!

Too much fun.

A little leprechaun in our class!

Friends...

...having fun!

A terrific trio.

Lots of play time on the last day before the March Break.

Creative play...

...with creative friends.

Some keyboard time.

Smile for the camera, girls!

With a low battery, she has to work with her chrome book plugged in.

Friendly smiles.

They're into it too!

Surprise!

The classroom corner is a well-loved spot.

We share our Shrove Tuesday page.

Which will be turned into a class book.

The children are proud of their work.

Which they love to share with you.

A long reach.

He wants to get back to his chrome book.

Looking good.

"I loved the pancakes," she says.

Nicely coloured page.

"I like my orange background."

"Pancakes are too cool!"

"Do you like my page?"
Yes we do!

Reddish-purple and pink look nice.

Love the shirt.

Are they saying their prayers?
No...they're having fun playing.

An aerial shot of some pretty focused students!

Say cheese, girls!

It's fun to work in the hallway.

With a friend.

Round and round the mulberry bush!

Hehehe!

We always let life surprise us in our class!

At the end of the day, many classes headed outside.

Where we played on the big hills.

In large groups.

Students from all of the grades congregated atop the slopes.

Fun fun fun!

Wave to the camera!

That's it!

Mrs. Akkawi's friends joined us in the great outdoors.

A great pose!

Happy March Break everyone!
Mr. Hamer OCT
