Spelling List For This Week ("l" blends)

   1.  floor       6.  flag
    2.  glue       7.  club
     3.  blink       8.  plant
      4.  play        9.  clean

     5.  glad       10. blow

Week twenty-three started off with a bang.

The children gathered at carpet.

For a math lesson.

With Ms. Stephanie.

Since we have learned about patterns in math class...

...we decided to incorporate patterns in our Ozobot lesson.

The children were all ears.

Excitement abounds.

Ms. Stephanie modeled a drawing on the paper.

Then she added some small colourful stickers in order to code the Ozobot.

Note the "green, red, green, red" pattern.

This particular pattern of coloured dots tells the Ozobot what to do.  This is called "coding".

They watch carefully.

Then they draw their own pattern of lines...again...in pattern form.

One girls draws her lines in a pattern of three blocks in length, then seven blocks in length and she repeats the pattern.

Then she joins the lines for her Ozobot to travel along.

Meanwhile, Ms. Stephanie instructs other children.

This young lady has incorporated a number of patterns together to form a larger grid.

As has this friend.

Looking good so far.

Excitement, for sure.  In fact the line to the left will be a line to allow the Ozobot to leave the grid as it is not connected with another line.

Some students use different coloured stickers to let their Ozobot perform specific tasks.

They can spin, turn around, change colours, do a dance...etc.

Mr. Hamer was excited when he spotted some children joining their patterns together.

Everyone is hard on task.

Some of the boys follow suit on the floor and amass a larger grid.

Colourful fun!

Thrilled students.

A big smile!

Indeed, learning to code is so much fun!

Have a great evening everyone!

Day 104 - Wednesday, Feb. 20

While we use our SmartBoard regularly, Mr. Hamer still makes use of the good old-fashioned blackboard...or is that "green" board!  Hehehe.

I guess we still call it a blackboard seeing as the earliest school houses actually had "black" boards!

Hmmm....

Love it!

She's proud of her work!  Looks great!

The temperature Wednesday afternoon was balmy enough to head outdoors and play on the hills.

The children love it!

Climbing up and sliding down is so much fun.

We certainly get a good view of the playground from our elevated perch.

"Hi there!"

A look over to Blossom Park's playground.

Smiles.

Galore!

Action Jackson!

"I'm following him!"

A threesome of bright students.

A foursome!

A fivesome!

She's holding up a great big icicle.

It is big!!!
Have a great evening all!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 105 - Thursday, Feb. 21

Thursday is the third day of the school week with having the Family Day holiday on the Monday.

There are some great books for the children to read when they have completed their work.

Checking in on calendar.

"Do you like my colouring?"  Yes we do!

Hard at work.

Time for fun.

Printing practice.

Marvelous Mm's!

A birthday girl from across the hall.

"I like my printing!" he says.

His friends agree.

Super student.

Super shirt.

Lots of fun.

We have our new seating arrangement.

Pose everyone!

A cool classroom.

Our oceans puzzle is done.

This one was a 150 piece project.

A balancing act.

Looking good on one leg.

We were actually saying the colours of the rainbow.

We had to balance as we went through the six colours.

Too much fun.

A challenge, for sure.

Three students tried...

...with each student stating two of the colours.

Six pupils means...

...each student gets one colour to recite.

But...

...they have to get them all in their proper order!

And...they did!

Working on the aquarium puzzle.

This one was a challenging one.

Over to library.

For our weekly visit to the learning commons.

Enjoying reading.

Books are great!

She likes this one.

These lads found some nice chairs for reading.

And...relaxing!

The carpet is a fun place to read from.

Four friends in a book.

Four more friends in their own books.

Love the stuffy from the birthday girl whose B-Day will be tomorrow!

"I like this book, Mr. Hamer."

Nice!

Looks like the aquarium puzzle is now complete.
It's a 200 piece one.

Mr. Hamer showed the children the blog when Mrs. Akkawi's pupils arrived in Block Three for a religion lesson on the sacraments.  The puzzle Mr. Hamer shared was a 1000 piece puzzle that was quite challenging for Mr. and Mrs. Hamer to complete.

Then, a student noticed another student's shirt.

It fit right in with the puzzle!

As did this girl's shirt with the picture of the same girl from another day with a different shirt.
Yes, in our class the students are quite observant!
Have a great evening all!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 106 - Friday, Feb. 22

Friday was another of our great "Spirit Days" here at St. Bernard.

Our staff certainly knows how to dress up for the occasion!

With this Friday being "Beach" Spirit Day...

...we certainly appear ready for the beach, don't we!

The staff certainly know how to have fun!

And...what a great staff we have!

I feel so blessed to be a part of such an amazing team!

Too much fun!

Oh no,  I think I may have broken the camera!  Hehehe!

The children  become totally involved as well.

As do our students!

Today the girls in Grade Two and Six headed over to the University of Ottawa for a STEM program focused on encouraging our young women to become more involved in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

While the girls were away, the boys all gathered in the two Grade Two classes out in the Portapack.

We completed a wordsearch on various sports.

Working together in teams.

Then we held a hockey tournament.

Four boys could play at any given time.

The results were tabulated.

Four boys played while the other lads completed their work.

Over time, the lads became an audience for the thrilling games.

Total concentration and focus.

Even though we would crown an individual champ who made it all the way to the finals and won, all the boys agreed that we are all winners.

Lots of colour in the room.

Lots of excitement.

The boys could also work on the three puzzles around the room.

Hard at work.

Hard at play.

Twenty boys in a single classroom and they were all great!

Some scientific experimenting with the game!

After the tournament, the lads could visit the Chromebooks.

For some fun activities.

All in all, it was a superb day for both the girls and the boys!
Have a great weekend everyone!
Mr. Hamer OCT
