Our Parent Sacramental Meeting is held at the church this evening.

With the recent snowfall, we ended up outdoors for a touch of physical education.

All of our images today are from the great outdoors.

Where the children are all smiles!

A big wave to the camera.

Queen of the castle.

With her royal subjects!

They're multiplying!

Egads...more subjects.

His look tells it all!

It's fun to be queen for a day.

Peace!

Too much fun in the snow fort.

Happy face!

Bundled up warmly.

By the fence.

Let it snow.

Walking in a winter wonderland.

More snow fort fun.

Peekaboo.

A mountain climber.

By the edge of the woods.

Smile for the camera.

Great looking grins.

On top of the world.

Safe play.

Hats, mitts, scarves!

"Hi Mr. Hamer!"

Snow carving.

Hi there.

"I love it outside," she says.

Hanging around.

Sliding down.

Climbing up.

Friendship.

Good buddies.

Relaxation.

A fortress.

"This is heavy, Mr. Hamer!"

Playing tag.

The Himalayas!

Concentration.

More smiles.

The great ascent.

The school's photocopier had broken down earlier in the day so Mr. Hamer was unable to print the newsletter and homework package.  Hopefully, the children will bring it home tomorrow.  Have a lovely evening!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 52 - Tuesday, Nov. 20

Had little time last night to post to the blog as I had to organize all of the 182 hockey tickets for all of the families coming out to the game which I did the night before.

It took until midnight Monday to complete the entire job.  It sure was tricky placing each family's order on a grid for the two sections we are occupying.  This is the grid for one of them.

A few empty desks were found on Tuesday.

Lots of young friends coming down with colds and flu.

We charge ahead in the curriculum nevertheless.

Mrs. Akkawi's class visited to work on the bells with us.

We are rehearsing a few Christmas songs.

The process is tricky as it demands total attention.

All children must focus on the conductor and not worry what their friends are doing.

The bells are colour-coded.

The red bells on either end cover the C note and they are octaves of each other.

A little Lego creation I found in the learning commons.

That reminds me we have library tomorrow.

This little girl has a big heart!

So do these ladies from "The Zone" who are creating a lovely Advent bulletin board.
Have a wonderful evening everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 53 - Wednesday, Nov. 21

On Wednesday morning we had the chrome books out early.

As the students completed a survey on their reading and math abilities.

Later we worked on a class book.

The subject was "Autumn Days."

Even though the snow is flying...

...we still remain in autumn for the better part of another month.

Caught ya by surprise!

Lots of activities.

Great colouring.

Students on task.

Looking great!

Later we will review what we did on Thrusday.
All the best, Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 54 - Thursday, Nov. 22

Today we gathered in the gym.

We attended a special presentation.

The topic was "Bus Safety."
Look, something's hiding under that red sheet.

Why...it's a bus!

His name is Buster.

He's really animated!

We learned that buses are big like a whale.

They are heavy like an elephant.

And...they move!

So does Buster.

We learned how to board and exit a bus safely.

We learned how to sit on the bus quietly.

Buster helped select children to assist in the presentation.

We learned how to walk to our bus stop safely.

We learned how to wait at our bus stop safely as well.

Buster kept their attention throughout the presentation.

We learned how to cross the street safely when we get off the bus.

The children learned that they must respect the bus driver.

The red area is the danger zone.

Lots of children raised their hands to respond to questions.

The video format was highly engaging.

Here is the image where you look both ways after the bus driver has let you cross in front of the bus.

Buster has his devices out for protection.

Ask your child what they learned from the presentation.
We did many other things today which will be posted tomorrow evening.
All the best.  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 55 - Friday, Nov. 23

Yesterday we also visited the Learning Commons.

For our exchange of library books.

Oh look, as Berenstain Bears book!

A smile for a good read.

"I still haven't found what I'm looking for!" says Bono of U2.

Friends.

A happy camper.

Ditto.

So many stories to choose from.

Something looks interesting here.

A Dr. Seuss book.

Still looking!

Twin smiles!

Ditto.

Relaxation.

In the tall chairs.

We love the learning commons.

A chapter book!

An overall view of the area.

An aerial view.

Another one.

Back in class we learned...

...that when two vowels go walking, the first does the talking.

Our desks are in rows for a few days.

We have been doing some baseline quizzes.

The different grades throughout the school have generated some math questions.

For Grade Two, the teachers selected some questions on patterning.

We want the students to attempt them on their own.

Then, we will teach the concepts.

Next week we will conduct another quiz to see how the children are coming along.

They like being in rows.

They all face the same way.

I miss the islands.

As I find you can maneuver around the class more when the desks are in groups.

I'm proud of their efforts.

This was the baseline question given to all grade two classes as determined by the teachers.  This is a baseline as the concept hadn't been covered as yet this year.  (We did create patterns using shapes earlier.)

We held a "Lock Down" rehearsal this week and I was very proud of the response of the children.  We lock the classroom door, pull the blinds down on the window and hide near the front of the classroom.  The children remained silent for a full twenty minutes!  Bravo!

Some computer fun on Friday afternoon.

This week is our annual Scholastic Book Fair.  Children can bring in money on Wednesday as that is the day we can visit the learning commons to purchase items.

Mr. Hamer and the school choir sang the national anthem at the Ottawa 67's game earlier today.  We must have been their "good luck charm" as the team won the game 8-4.  I will share some pics next week.

Have a great rest of the weekend!  Mr. Hamer OCT
