Week Thirty-Eight of School

Day 172 - Monday, June 10

As the note on the blackboard indicates...yessirree.  No more spelling lists to study for!

Here is our weekly newsletter.  I tried to rotate the image 90 degrees but it still shows sideways.

Our final homework assignment talks about heroes.

Heroes can be moms and dads who sacrifice so much for the children.

Heroes can be doctors, nurses...

...firefighters, paramedics.

Mrs. Akkawi's grade three's joined our group this morning.

They really enjoyed listening to a few fables and some poetry.
The light blanched this photo a bit.

Great looking students.

Too much fun.  More blanching of the light.

A photo bomber!

Why the confetti...well...it rhymes with spaghetti...which we read in a particular poem.

Best buds.

A nice smile.

We checked out National Geographic for Kids to do some research on animal habitats.

This young lady did a research project on sloths.

They live in trees.

In the tropics.

A tiny baby sloth.

Indeed, they are cute.

They stay away from predators on the ground.

Yes, they are slow movers.

This young lad researched penguins.

Funny pics.

They live down south.

Great dads.

Motherly love.

No air for these birds!

Great divers.

Great swimmers.

Back outdoors.

Great friends.

Great fun.

It shows in their smiles.

A recess snack.

Flower power.

Emilie, our group leader from last week's field trip.

When predators attack this frog, he gives off a liquid that is very unpleasant to taste!

Forest greenery.

Amazing.

Impressive.

Awesome.

Still more research to conduct with handy tools.

Checking out some nature finds.

A rare yellow bird!

"This is exciting, Mr. Hamer!" she says.

Friends.

More friends.

Thanks to our moms and dads who volunteered on the trip!
Have a lovely evening everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 173 - Tuesday, June 11

Looks like we have a visitor to class.

He's already found a friend.

Two more little visitors with this little girl.

This little friend is presenting her on-line project.

On the Monardh Butterfly.

We learned a lot from her research.

Monarchs migrate.

They huddle together to keep warm.

They love to eat milkweed.

We also learned about metamorphosis.

A little creation by another friend.

Back to our field trip.

Deer antlers.

Deer groups.

Why they are called white-tailed deer in the first place.

Lots of interests and questions for sure.
Have a great evening everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 174 - Wednesday, June 12

Love the colour match between the ukele and the t-shirt.
This young lady rehearses in our class for the talent show.
She is the older sister of one of our students.

This lad rehearses as well.

Mrs. Akkawi's grade two students joined us.

We are waiting outside the learning commons.

We meet one of the librarians from the Greenboro Public Library.

She is peaking to the children about the summer library program.

They listen attentively.

Lots of students.

They offer great responses.

The children can collect a button a week...

...should they choose to visit the library throughout the summer.

You will recall Emilie showing the children the deer?

We now role-play what it is like to be a deer.

The blindfolded student in the center of the circle is a deer.

All the children around the circle are potential prey.

They must be very quiet.

Especially when it is their turn to sneak up on the deer.

Then it's back into the woods.

To finish off our hike.

We thank Emilie for sharing all of her knowledge as our tour guide.

We cross the river and head back to the nature centre for lunch.
Have a great evening everyone.  Mr. Hamer OCT

Day 175 - Thursday, June 13

Handsome haircut!

Love the line!

Tasty snack!

We are studying media literacy.

We've learned that cereal companies use bright colours, large lettering...

...and cool cartoon characters on the box front to attract the attention of children.

TV ads also bombard families with "buy me" messages.

Commercial during cartoon time try to sell their brand of cereal.
We studied other ads for other things such as toys to learn more about the power of this medium.

Thursday was our BBQ day where parents could submit bids on the finger painting efforts of the classes.

Inspirational messages.

Good to see the cap for protection from the sun.

Basketball fun too.  That's the outdoor classroom in back.

Perfect pose.
